mcdonaldsWhile looking at the Mcdonalds career choices on the official website, it’s easy to get lost in confusion. In this article I’ll give you a quick rundown of what to expect and what jobs are generally available at the restaurant level.

There are many reasons to join a proven winner such as this fast food giant, and probably the biggest reason people fill out a McDonalds job application is to try and get quickly hired as a teenager looking for a summer job. Some teens usually find out quickly this position has some serious potential, and a select few go on to much higher-paying managerial positions rather quickly.

Another reason why people fill out an application form for Mcdonalds is because they’re thinking like entrepreneurs, knowing if they learn how the business works from the inside, it will be that much easier to eventually own and operate a successful MD’s franchise.

Others go after jobs in Mcdonalds hoping to climb up the ladder of success in a management or corporate capacity.

Whatever your goals may be, here are the most popular Mcdonalds jobs being filled daily, and a quick reference to find positions to suit your needs and goals:

1. Crew Members – these workers do anything and everything at this entry-level position which typically starts out at or just above minimum wage. Mickey Dee’s is notorious for promoting workers who stand above and beyond expectations, and those who prove they have great leadership skills.

These workers’ duties include food preparation, cooks, cashier positions, and even bathroom cleaning every now and then. The job is basically about providing an excellent customer experience.

Crew members who dedicate themselves and keep their eyes on the future have an incredible opportunity to be making anywhere between 30,000 to 60,000 dollars in management positions within a few short years; MD’s states 50% of their managers started out as crew members!

Crew trainers are also in this mix and they do exactly what the title suggests; they are paid slightly higher than crew members and provide training for new team members.

2. Support Positions – these jobs range in everything from beverage specialists to maintenance workers to janitorial positions. These positions are yet another stepping stone to a management position if you play your cards right and you really don’t deal as much with the public like crew members do.

3. Management – if you’re interested in jobs at McDonalds because you aspire to become part of the management team, here’s the usual scenario:

You’ll be promoted from crew member to Swing manager, which is a trainee position usually lasting 4-6 months. During this period you’ll learn the ins and outs of managerial duties, and for the first time you’ll have responsibility over your crew members.

After that, you’ll advance to either a Second or First Assistant manager, and your responsibility increases greatly as will your salary!

Eventually you will be THE MANAGER! Incidentally, there are many college students going to school part-time and working full-time as a Mcdonalds restaurant manager.

Mcdonalds careers don’t just stop here; there are corporate positions available such as Operations Supervisor and Human Resources Consultant just to name a few.

careerchangeThere are a number of reasons workers in the fast food or retail business become frustrated at their current positions, and considering a move to one of the many Mcdonalds careers can help put your future into perspective.

You spend close to half of your lifetime working, and if you are employed at a company that leaves you unfulfilled, it’s probably time to make a change for your own health and well-being.

Jenny Rapapport from Tampa, FL filled out an application for Mcdonalds in 2006 and was hired almost instantly.  She left her waitress job at a local restaurant and  started working part-time as a crew member during that summer when she was 21 and was quickly promoted to 2ndassistant manager within a year.  She suddenly found herself at the age of 22 with a tremendous amount of responsibility and her eyes became wide open with the possibilities.

“I would say if you seek Mcdonalds employment with the hopes of moving up the ranks, the opportunities are there, butyou better be ready to work your tail off!” says Rapapport.  Before filling out a McDonalds employment application or considering a career change to any company it’s important to put everything into perspective by answering these questions honestly:

  • Are you leaving your present employer over personality differences with someone suchas your boss?
  • Can live with a temporary pay reduction?
  • Is this really what you want to do, and why?

Mcdonalds careers are perfect for switching  careers for many reasons such as job security and quick career advancement opportunities.
